Buckeyes Against Hazing

National Hazing Prevention Week is officially held from September 22 - 26, where many universities across the country including Ohio State raise awareness and increase education about hazing. Our objective is to educate, empower and stand up against hazing in all forms to promote a positive change in our college community. 

Campus Events

Monday, September 22 - No Pressure, No Hazing | Location: Ohio Union Great Hall | Time: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

  • We're giving away designed tote bags and promo items to promote a safe and supportive campus environment. Each tote bag comes filled with resources and information on hazing prevention, along with a stress ball to remind students to stay calm and resilient in the face of peer pressure. As part of the giveaway, the Ohio State community is also invited to sign our Buckeyes Against Hazing banner, a visible pledge to support one another, stand up against hazing, and build a community of care. Treats will be provided.

Tuesday, September 23 - Empowering Voices: Leadership Techniques To Address Hazing | Location: TBD | Time: 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

  • This session equips student leaders with effective techniques to recognize, address, and prevent hazing within their organizaton and communities. Participants will explore strategies for fostering a culture of trust, safety, and accountability, while building the confidence to interevene and the skills to lead change. Through real-world examples, practical tools, and interactive discussion, attendees will leave with a clearer understaning of how to use their voice, their influence, and create healthy environments where all members can thrive. Registration will open soon to all members of student organizations. 

Wednesday, September 24 - Leave No Trace of Hazing | Location: South Oval | Time: 12:00 - 3:00 p.m.

  • Encouraging students to use sidewalk chalk to share anti-hazing messages around campus. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the harms of hazing, spark conversation, and promote a respectful campus culture. Sample slogals include Buckeyes Against Hazing, Hazing Has No Home Here, Together Against Hazing, Empower with Kindness, or [Your Org Name] Against Hazing. Students and student organizations are welcome to participate any time between 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. The Ohio State community is also invited to sign our Buckeyes Against Hazing banner to support one another, stand up against hazing, and build a community of care. Treats will be provided. 

Thursday, September 25 - 10 Signs of Healthy and Unhealthy Groups | Location: Great Hall Meeting Rooms 1 & 2 | Time: 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.

  • StopHazing is coming to our campus to lead a faculty and staff and advisor focused session on understanding and preventing hazing. This program will explore how hazing is defined, including three key components: a power imbalance and the reinforcement of a group hierarchy. Participants will learn how to recognize hazing behaviors along the spectrum of hazing, identify signs of healthy versus unhealthy group dynamics, and understand how these signs can be connected to hazing. The session will also provide practical strategies for faculty, staff and advisors to support healthy group development and intervene in ways to reduce risk. This event is intended for faculty/staff, advisors, and co-advisors only. Registration will open soon! Hot breakfast will be provided.
